A 22-year-old youth was arrested on charges of raping and strangulating his live-in partner's three-and-a-half-year-old daughter on Monday night in West Bengaluru's Kamakshipalya.
Police said the autopsy report confirmed sexual assault. The heinous act came to light when she found the girl's mother lying unconscious and rushed her to the hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. While the man claimed he hit the girl after she pooped her pants, the woman filed a criminal complaint accusing her partner of raping the child before killing her.
The woman, a garment worker, had been living with the suspect after her husband left her several years ago. The suspect was addicted to alcohol and quit his job several months ago, police said.
The accused was arrested under the Pocso Act and Sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape) of the IPC. He was brought before a court, which sent him to judicial custody.
