Kolkata tourist bus overturns in Bankura; 15 injured, locals aid rescue

A tragic accident occurred early this morning on the Bankura-Khatra state highway, where a Kolkata tourist bus overturned near Bagdiha in Indpur. At least 15 people were injured, with several reported to be in critical condition. The injured, many of whom are residents of Kolkata’s Ruby area and members of the city’s rickshaw pullers' union, were rushed to nearby hospitals by locals and police.

The accident took place at approximately 7 AM when the bus, carrying 65 tourists en route to Mukutmanipur, attempted to avoid a head-on collision with a Bolero pick-up van. In an effort to pass safely, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. The commotion that followed drew immediate attention from local residents, who joined the police in rescue operations.

Emergency services were quickly mobilized. Indpur police station officers arrived on the scene to coordinate rescue efforts and manage the chaotic situation. The injured passengers were initially taken to Indpur Block Hospital. However, three individuals in critical condition were transferred to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital for advanced care.

Eyewitnesses describe the accident as severe, noting the overturned bus and the visible distress of the passengers. Locals played a crucial role, using their resources to extricate passengers trapped in the bus and provide first aid before emergency responders arrived.

The bus was part of a tourist group heading to Mukutmanipur, a popular destination in Bankura district. Such trips often attract groups from Kolkata, and this incident highlights the potential risks of traveling on state highways with dense traffic and narrow roads.
