Suicide attempt at Chandni Chowk metro station disrupts service
Digha Police successfully dismantled a theft operation involving six youths from Howrah, who had gathered in the popular coastal area of Digha-Mandarmani during the peak holiday season. The suspects had checked into multiple hotels across the town with the intention of engaging in thefts, including mobile phones and personal belongings, targeting both locals and tourists. Based on reliable intelligence, police carried out a raid and arrested the gang members, recovering five mobile phones and other stolen items.
The gang’s operation was primarily focused on evenings when the crowds were at their largest, taking advantage of the influx of tourists and locals. Police reports indicate that the group had already carried out several thefts, using the busy atmosphere to steal items from distracted individuals. The suspects, all from Howrah, had been under surveillance for some time by the Digha Police, who had tracked their activities before making the arrests.
The arrested individuals were produced in Kanthi court and remanded in judicial custody. Digha Police have also seized various stolen goods from the suspects. Authorities are continuing to investigate the possibility of additional members being involved in the theft ring, as well as the full scope of the gang's activities. In the aftermath, the police are intensifying efforts to enhance security in the region, focusing on tourist-heavy areas and addressing the rising incidents of thefts and other criminal activities during the holiday season.
