Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
Two Indian Navy officers were rescued after their parachutes became entangled during a rehearsal for an operational demonstration at Rama Krishna Beach in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The incident occurred during a practice session ahead of the Eastern Naval Command’s Operational Demonstration scheduled for January 4. The rehearsal was part of the final preparations for showcasing the Navy's capabilities to the public.
The two officers were performing a tandem parachute descent when their parachutes became entangled mid-air. One officer was carrying the national flag, while the other’s parachute was caught in a dangerous tangle, causing both officers to lose control and fall rapidly toward the water. They fell into the shallow waters near the shore, but no injuries were reported. The Navy had a boat stationed near the site of the incident, which immediately responded and rescued the officers, bringing them safely to the shore.
The incident occurred in the presence of a number of spectators who had gathered to watch the rehearsal. The operational demonstration is a major event for the Indian Navy, intended to display the full range of its capabilities. The event will feature a series of demonstrations, including operations by warships, submarines, aircraft, helicopters, and the Marine Commandos (MARCOS). In addition to these displays, there will be high-speed maneuvers, amphibious assaults, live slithering operations, and Combat Free Fall by MARCOS personnel.
The event, which will take place on January 4, is also expected to highlight the Navy’s operational preparedness in various scenarios. A special feature will be the Horn Pipe Dance performed by the Sea Cadets Corps from Visakhapatnam, and the Beating Retreat Ceremony by the ENC band. The demonstration is part of the Navy's ongoing efforts to engage the public and demonstrate its operational capabilities and readiness to protect national maritime interests.
The rehearsal mishap occurred just a day before the scheduled demonstration, underlining the high-risk nature of these operations. The Navy's quick and efficient response in rescuing the officers underscores the importance of emergency preparedness during such high-stakes rehearsals. The demonstration will be attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is expected to be the chief guest for the event.
