An extensive investigation has led to the arrest of 11 individuals in connection with a high-profile diamond theft case in Durgapur. The theft, which occurred on December 24, targeted the residence of businessman Amit Singh on Raja Santosh Roy Road. Singh reported the theft of diamond jewelry, valued at approximately 1 crore. After unsuccessful attempts to recover the stolen items, Singh contacted the police for assistance. By December 30, the authorities had recovered a significant portion of the stolen valuables, including diamonds, gold jewelry, and silver items.
The investigation uncovered that the theft had been ongoing for nearly two years, with the culprits gradually removing valuable items from the residence. Six of the arrested individuals were domestic staff employed at the house, including housekeeping workers and nannies, while the remaining five were those who had purchased the stolen goods from the thieves. Jhuma Ghosh, a nanny working in the household, was identified as the mastermind behind the theft. Ghosh, a resident of Gardenreach, played a central role in coordinating the thefts over the years.
Authorities also linked the suspects to a larger criminal network. The arrested individuals had been recruited through Orbit Royal, a domestic staff placement agency. Police are investigating whether this syndicate had been involved in other thefts in the region. As part of their investigation, law enforcement is in contact with Orbit Royal to determine the full scope of the syndicate's operations and to identify any further connections. All 11 individuals arrested in connection with the theft will be presented in court today.
