On December 16, Rafikul Islam Sekh, a 40-year-old resident of Haripur, Purba Burdwan, reported that Rs. 11.34 lakh was stolen from his bag while traveling on a bus from Howrah to Burrabazar in Kolkata. The theft occurred around 11:00 AM as he was alighting from the bus at Pagaya Patty, located on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Burrabazar. Sekh was carrying a significant amount of cash, and he stated that the theft happened while he was disembarking from the bus, which was crowded at the time.
The case was filed at Burrabazar Police Station on December 17, under Section 303(2) of the BNS. Police immediately began an investigation into the theft, which involves the review of CCTV footage from the bus as well as nearby areas, such as Mahatma Gandhi Road and Pagaya Patty.
