Toruists 'not allowed' at Sikkim's Nathu La on January 1; Know why

Tourists will not be permitted to visit Sikkim's Nathula near the India-China boundary on January 1, 2025, due to a special border personnel meeting scheduled at the site, officials announced on Monday. Authorities have advised travelers to avoid planning visits to Nathula on New Year's Day to ensure the smooth conduct of the meeting.

"A special border personnel meeting will be held at Nathula, located on the Indian side, on January 1, 2025. To facilitate the proceedings, tourist and civilian movement in and around Nathula will be temporarily restricted for the day," officials explained.

While Nathula will remain closed, other popular tourist destinations such as Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir will continue to welcome visitors as usual. Travelers have been urged to plan their itineraries accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
