Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
A 42-year-old man, Debabrata Ghosh, died suddenly during a family picnic at his brother-in-law's house in Gourinagar village, Murshidabad, on Sunday night. Ghosh was invited by his brother-in-law and nephew to join them for a gathering that included food and alcohol. The family claims that an argument broke out during the picnic, linked to a past dispute, which escalated shortly before Ghosh's death.
Following the gathering, Ghosh reportedly fell ill, and his family rushed him to seek help, but he was pronounced dead. The police recovered the body and sent it to Kandi Subdivisional Hospital for a postmortem to determine the cause of death. Investigations are ongoing, with police focusing on the possibility of poisoning or other foul play. The area, known for illegal alcohol trade, is under scrutiny, with authorities checking whether the alcohol consumed during the picnic was illicit.
The police have questioned those present at the gathering, including the victim's brother-in-law and nephew, while the latter has reportedly gone into hiding. Authorities are exploring all angles of the case, including whether the alcohol involved was sourced from the local illegal network. The investigation also seeks to uncover any connections between the dispute that allegedly led to Ghosh's death and the circumstances of the picnic.
