Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
In a tragic incident on Friday night in Howrah’s Vyataitala area, Ruby Jha (27), the wife of a police officer, was found dead in her flat at Bajrang Apartment. Her body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan. Her elder son, Chirag Jha (11), was pronounced dead at a hospital, while her younger son, aged 4, remains critical and under medical care.
Ruby’s husband, Pradeep Jha, a police officer with Howrah City Police, returned home in the evening to find the main door locked from inside. After repeated knocking and calling went unanswered, he sought help from neighbors and informed the police. The police forced the door open and found Ruby hanging in one room. In another room, both children were found unconscious on a bed.
The children were immediately rushed to a hospital, where Chirag was declared dead. Doctors are working to stabilize the younger child. Initial investigations have revealed the possibility of poisoning, but forensic confirmation is awaited. Police have sealed the apartment and collected samples for analysis. Officers are recording statements from neighbors and family members to establish a timeline of events. The post-mortem examination of Ruby and her elder son is expected to provide further details. Investigators are examining all possible angles to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
