Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met Tollywood actors and filmmakers on Thursday, assuring them of his government’s support while urging the industry to exercise responsibility and ensure fan safety. The meeting comes in the wake of strained relations between the state government and the Telugu film industry following the arrest of Pushpa 2 actor Allu Arjun.
The high-level meeting, held at the Telangana State Police Command and Control Centre in Hyderabad, was attended by several prominent figures, including actor Venkatesh Daggubati and other Tollywood stars such as Nagarjuna, Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej, Kalyan Ram, and Nithin. Renowned directors Koratala Siva and Anil Ravipudi, along with producers like Dil Raju and Suresh Babu, were also part of the discussions.
Revanth Reddy emphasized the importance of public safety and said celebrities have a responsibility to ensure their fans’ actions do not result in chaos. "The Telugu film industry is integral to our culture and economy, but fan frenzy must be managed," Reddy reportedly stated. He added that law and order would not be compromised.
The talks were prompted by the tragic incident earlier this month, where a massive crowd gathered to see Allu Arjun during the Pushpa 2 premiere at Sandhya Theatre. The chaos led to the death of a 35-year-old woman and injuries to her child. The CM criticized the event’s management, holding the film’s promotional activities partly responsible for the stampede-like situation.
Allu Arjun had described the incident as accidental, sparking further controversy. His comments were met with criticism from Congress leaders, who alleged negligence and demanded accountability. Revanth Reddy made it clear that such events must prioritize public safety to avoid further tragedies.
Tollywood representatives expressed their commitment to working with the government to ensure fan safety during promotional activities. The meeting ended on a collaborative note, with both parties agreeing to stronger measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
