BJP leaders in Panskura secure housing after direct appeal to CM, 12+ beneficiaries identified

In Panskura, over a dozen BJP leaders and workers have received housing assistance under the West Bengal state government's housing scheme after directly appealing to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. These individuals, including members of the Haur Gram Panchayat, were previously excluded from the scheme by the local administration due to their political affiliation. After being excluded, they approached the Chief Minister directly for assistance, which resulted in their inclusion. The first installment of Rs 60,000 has already been deposited into the accounts of 2,567 beneficiaries in the Panskura block.

Uttam Mondal, an active BJP worker and brother-in-law of Chhanda Jana Mondal, the BJP head of Haur Gram Panchayat, confirmed that his name had been repeatedly removed from the housing list because of his association with the BJP. He stated that after being left out, he contacted the Chief Minister's office, seeking assistance, and was granted a home. Mondal noted that the process was smooth once the Chief Minister's office was involved.

The housing scheme is part of the state government’s broader initiative aimed at providing affordable homes to underprivileged families. The scheme has been running for several years, with a significant number of beneficiaries in various regions of the state. In Panskura, 2,567 individuals have received their first installment of Rs 60,000 as part of the current phase of the disbursement process. This installment marks the beginning of payments for the housing scheme in the block.

This phase of the housing program has attracted attention due to the involvement of BJP leaders. By directly appealing to the Chief Minister, they circumvented the usual procedure, which involves local administration and panchayat leaders in the selection process. The distribution of housing under this scheme continues, with further installments expected in the coming months for eligible beneficiaries across West Bengal.
