Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Kuwait’s highest distinction, 'The Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer,' on December 22, 2024, during his two-day visit to the Gulf nation. This marks the 20th international honour awarded to PM Modi by a foreign country. The prestigious award is a knighthood order, typically bestowed upon heads of state, foreign sovereigns, and members of royal families as a gesture of friendship and goodwill.
The Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer is one of Kuwait’s highest awards, and its past recipients include global figures such as former US President Bill Clinton, Prince Charles, and former US President George Bush.
In a tweet following the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am honoured to be conferred the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Order by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah. I dedicate this honour to the people of India and to the strong friendship between India and Kuwait."
The award ceremony took place at the Bayan Palace, where PM Modi was given a ceremonial guard of honour by the Kuwaiti military. Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait, was present at the occasion, further highlighting the importance of the bilateral ties between the two nations.
This visit is a historic one, as it marks the first time in 43 years that an Indian prime minister has visited Kuwait. As part of his official visit, PM Modi is expected to meet with Kuwaiti leadership, including the Crown Prince, and sign several agreements on various aspects of cooperation.
On the first day of his visit, PM Modi also visited a Gulf Spic employee camp in Kuwait, where he interacted with Indian workers. He praised their contributions to the nation’s development, underscoring the close ties between India and Kuwait, particularly within the Indian diaspora.
