A deadly altercation occurred in Raghunath Chak, Ward No. 1, Ghatal Municipality, Paschim Medinipur, when a dispute over water dripping from the roof led to the brutal murder of 57-year-old Sukumar Dolui. The incident took place on Saturday morning when Sukumar and his nephew, Bapan Dolui, reportedly engaged in a heated argument regarding the issue of water leakage from the roof. During the argument, Bapan allegedly attacked Sukumar with an axe, striking him multiple times across his body, including blows to the chest, ears, and other vital areas. Sukumar was declared dead at the scene.
Following the attack, the police were notified and responded promptly to the location. Six members of Bapan Dolui’s family, including Bapan, were detained for questioning. As police attempted to transport the detained individuals, tensions in the area soared. A large crowd of locals gathered, with some attempting to prevent the police from taking the accused into custody. A physical confrontation ensued between the police and the crowd, which caused further disruption in the area.
Sukumar’s body was sent for post-mortem examination, while the police initiated a thorough investigation into the events leading to his death.
