Gujarat Police arrest smuggler with 12 kg hybrid ganja worth Rs 3.6 Cr in Ahmedabad

The Gujarat Police arrested Yogesh Patel, a resident of Morbi, in Ahmedabad's Vatva area after seizing 12 kg of hybrid ganja worth Rs 3.6 crore. The arrest was made during a routine vehicle check on the morning of December 18, when officers found the drugs concealed in Patel's vehicle. Patel was traveling from Mumbai to Morbi when he was apprehended.

During interrogation, Patel admitted that he had smuggled the ganja from Thailand. He explained that he traveled to Thailand on December 14 and returned to Mumbai on December 16 with the drugs. Patel said he was instructed by two women, Nidhi and Sayli, whom he met six months ago in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. The women allegedly promised Patel Rs 70,000 for smuggling the ganja into India. However, Patel was to receive the payment only after successfully delivering the drugs to their destination.

Patel also mentioned another individual, Pritam, who was reportedly tasked with smuggling ganja by the same women. He revealed that Pritam was part of a broader smuggling operation coordinated by Nidhi and Sayli. The Ahmedabad Police have initiated a thorough investigation into the smuggling network, which includes looking into how the drugs passed through airport security undetected. Authorities are coordinating with Mumbai officials to track the full route of the contraband and identify other members of the network involved in the operation.

The Gujarat Police are focused on verifying Patel's statements, tracing the origins of the drugs, and uncovering the involvement of Nidhi, Sayli, and other individuals in the racket. Patel had not received any payment at the time of his arrest, as the women had only promised the money after the successful delivery of the contraband. The authorities are working to dismantle the smuggling network and prevent further illegal activities.
