Man throws acid over Honeymoon destination dispute at son-in-law

A newly married man in Maharashtra’s Thane district sustained serious injuries after his father-in-law allegedly attacked him with acid following a disagreement over his honeymoon destination. The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday night and has left the victim, 29-year-old Ibad Atik Falke, hospitalized, according to police officials.

Senior inspector SR Gaud of Bazarpeth police station reported that the accused, 65-year-old Jaki Gulam Murtaza Khotal, fled the scene after the attack and is currently on the run. An FIR has been filed, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

The dispute began shortly after Falke’s recent marriage to Khotal’s daughter. Falke planned to visit Kashmir for his honeymoon, while his father-in-law insisted on a trip to a religious destination abroad. This disagreement escalated into a major conflict, according to the police.

On Wednesday night, as Falke returned home and parked his vehicle near a roadside, Khotal, lying in wait in his car, approached him and threw acid on him. The attack caused injuries to Falke’s face and body, and he was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The police suspect Khotal wanted to disrupt his daughter’s marriage with Falke. “Khotal’s actions seem premeditated, and we are actively pursuing leads to locate him,” said senior inspector Gaud.

The accused has been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 124-1 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid) and 351-3 (criminal intimidation), along with other relevant charges. The case highlights a disturbing trend of interpersonal disputes escalating into violent crimes.
