Man dies, 6 family members hospitalized in Birbhum after eating turtle meat
A violent incident unfolded at Mahishgram Primary School in Murshidabad’s Barwan block, leaving teacher Bishwaroop Maitra severely injured. According to school sources, the altercation stemmed from disciplinary issues involving another teacher, Anusua Mandal, who had been accused of neglecting school rules and failing to follow the regular routine. Despite several warnings, Mandal’s conduct allegedly led to protests by her colleagues in recent days.
On the day of the incident, Mandal’s husband, Chanchal Garai, an assistant teacher at Telduma High School, arrived at the school. He reportedly confronted Maitra over the ongoing protests against his wife, which escalated into a physical attack. Maitra sustained significant injuries and was rushed to Barwan Rural Hospital for treatment.
Police were notified and intervened promptly, detaining Garai for questioning. He was later taken into custody while the authorities continued their investigation into the incident. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the altercation unfolded in front of students and staff members. The situation has raised concerns within the community, and police are working to gather more details as they proceed with their inquiry.
