Fencing work triggers altercation at Indo-Ban border in Malda
The West Bengal Pradesh Youth Congress conducted a "Raj Bhavan Chalo" protest today, demanding accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ongoing Adani issue and the continuing violence in Manipur. The protestors, comprising Congress workers and supporters, gathered outside Raj Bhavan, Kolkata’s official Governor's residence, to raise concerns about the government's handling of these two critical issues. Protestors specifically criticized the government for its inaction regarding the Adani Group’s business dealings and the allegations of corruption that have surrounded the company. Additionally, they condemned the persistent ethnic violence in Manipur, which has led to significant loss of life and displacement since May 2023.
As protestors reached Raj Bhavan, a heavy police presence was deployed to prevent any breach of security. Clashes erupted when demonstrators attempted to march further towards the Governor's residence, leading to a standoff with the police. Several individuals were detained and escorted to police vehicles, with many being taken away in prisoner vans. The protestors continued to voice their demands, calling for a full investigation into the Adani issue and immediate government action to end the violence in Manipur. Despite the arrests, the Youth Congress pledged to persist with their protests until their demands are met. The party has expressed concerns over the government's failure to resolve both the crisis in Manipur and the ongoing scrutiny over Adani’s corporate dealings.
