At least six people were killed, and seven others were injured in a head-on collision between an SUV and a truck in Balod district, Chhattisgarh, late Sunday night. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Daundi police station, around 10:30 PM, as the victims were returning from a family function. All victims were residents of the Gunderdehi area in Balod district.
According to police reports, the SUV, carrying 13 occupants, was traveling when it collided head-on with a truck. Six individuals died at the scene, and their bodies were sent for post-mortem. The deceased have been identified as Durpat Prajapati (30), Sumitra Bai Kumbhkar (50), Manisha Kumbhkar (35), Sagun Bai Kumbhkar (50), Imla Bai (55), and a 7-year-old boy, Jignesh Kumbhkar.
The seven injured victims, which include five women and two minors, sustained serious injuries. They were first taken to a local community health center in Daundi, where they received initial medical care. They were later transferred to Rajnandgaon district hospital for further treatment. The conditions of the injured victims have not been disclosed, and authorities have not provided updates on their recovery status.
The police have registered an accidental death report, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision. Authorities are examining multiple factors, including road conditions, weather, and the actions of both drivers. The truck and SUV have been impounded for inspection, and authorities are attempting to locate and question the truck driver. It remains unclear if any negligence or traffic violations were involved in the crash.
