Neighbor arrested for sexual assault of minor in Kolkata, POCSO case filed

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a neighbor in the Bordal area of Narendrapur, South 24 Parganas, on the night of December 15, 2024. The accused, a 22-year-old man, was arrested by the Narendrapur police following a complaint filed by the victim’s parents. The police have charged him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Authorities confirmed that he was apprehended from the same locality and will be produced before the Baruipur Sub-Divisional Court for further proceedings.

The incident reportedly occurred when the victim was home alone. The accused, aware that the minor was by herself, allegedly entered the house and assaulted her. Upon the return of the girl’s parents later that evening, they noticed their daughter was unwell and distressed. After speaking with her, they immediately took her to the Narendrapur police station, where a formal complaint was lodged, and a case was registered.

Following the complaint, the minor underwent a medical examination at the Sonarpur Rural Hospital, where the authorities confirmed the examination findings would play a key role in the investigation. The police are actively investigating the case, with plans to gather further evidence. The arrested individual has been remanded into police custody, and police officials have assured that the case will be handled with full legal rigor.
