CPI(M)-supported group wins all 12 seats in Hooghly Cooperative polls

In a significant political development, Left-backed candidates have secured a sweeping victory in the elections for the Itachuna Mandaran Cooperative Agriculture Development Committee Limited in Pandua, Hooghly district. The cooperative society, which has 12 seats in total, saw Left candidates win all seats, including one uncontested victory.

On Saturday, voting was held for the remaining 11 seats, with the CPI(M)-backed West Bengal Samavay Bachao Manch and Trinamool Congress fielding their candidates. The BJP, notably, did not participate in the elections. Voting began at 9:00 AM and concluded peacefully at 3:00 PM, despite a tense atmosphere. Adequate police arrangements ensured no major disruptions during the polling process.

The final tally revealed a clean sweep for the Left-backed Samavay Bachao Manch, while the ruling Trinamool Congress failed to secure a single seat. Jubilant celebrations erupted among Left supporters as the results were announced.

CPI(M) Hooghly District Secretary Amjad Hussain, also a former MLA from Pandua, called the victory a testament to people's faith in democracy. "We contested all 12 seats under the banner of West Bengal Samavay Bachao Manch and won every one of them. Trinamool could not win even a single seat, and BJP didn't even field candidates. This victory belongs to the people. It shows that fair elections can bring meaningful results," said Hussain.

This victory comes as a morale booster for the Left, which has faced severe electoral setbacks in recent years, failing to secure any seats in both state assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Political analysts believe that the resounding success in the cooperative elections could provide a much-needed boost to Left parties, marking a potential revival in grassroots politics in certain regions of Bengal.
