Fake passport racket uncovered in Kolkata, two suspects arrested
37 passports were issued using forged documents for Bangladeshi citizens
Police investigating deeper links and other accomplices in the operation
A fake passport racket was uncovered in Kolkata, leading to the arrest of two suspects—Samaresh Biswas and Deepak Mondal. The operation was reportedly targeting Bangladeshi nationals, providing them with forged identity cards and passports.
According to police sources, one of the arrested individuals, Samaresh Biswas, worked as a temporary staffer at the postal office. Investigators suspect his position allowed him access to documents and resources used in creating the fake passports.
The police claim that the accused duo has successfully issued 37 fake passports to Bangladeshi citizens thus far. Their modus operandi involved forging documents to create legitimate-looking Indian identity proofs, which were then used to secure passports.
Acting on a tip-off, the Kolkata police conducted raids leading to the arrests. The operation also uncovered various forged documents, stamps, and materials linked to the racket. Authorities are now investigating whether more individuals are involved and tracking the network’s links to other regions.
