Man dies, 6 family members hospitalized in Birbhum after eating turtle meat
Seven people sustained injuries, one critically, when a tourist bus overturned on National Highway 60 near Bhedhuashol under Unda Police Station in Bankura district on Sunday morning. The injured were promptly taken to a Super Specialty Hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred when 26 tourists, traveling from Baranagar to Ayodhya Hills in Purulia, were onboard a small bus. According to eyewitnesses, the bus collided with a truck near Bhedhuashol more, causing the vehicle to overturn. Police rushed to the site upon receiving information and quickly began rescue operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest the accident was caused by the high speed of the bus. Passengers reported that despite repeated warnings to the driver to reduce speed, the requests were ignored, ultimately leading to the crash.
A senior police official from Unda Police Station confirmed that negligence and speeding were major factors in the accident. He added, “The driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to navigate a turn.” Among the seven injured, one individual's condition remains critical. The authorities have assured that proper medical attention is being provided to all the victims.
The incident has raised concerns over reckless driving, particularly in vehicles carrying large groups. Law enforcement is conducting further investigations and plans to interrogate the driver, who is reportedly in custody. The police are also assessing road safety measures to prevent such mishaps in the future.
