Mamata Banerjee celebrates Christmas with message of unity, attends midnight mass in Kolkata
A severed head, believed to belong to a woman, was discovered early Friday morning in a garbage vat behind a multi-storied building in Kolkata’s Golf Green area. The head was wrapped in a white packet and placed in the vat, where local residents noticed it and alerted the authorities. Police, led by DC SSD Bidisha Kalita, reached the scene to begin their investigation, while a forensic team was tasked with examining the head and collecting evidence.
On Saturday, the investigation took a significant turn when police recovered the remaining body in a pond behind Tollygunge Friends Club, located in the Regent Park area. The body was confirmed to be the same as the severed head found the previous day. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of death but are conducting a thorough forensic examination to gather more information.
Police have expanded their efforts to investigate the disposal of the body, reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding areas. The dense population of the locality has made it challenging for authorities to find clear leads on the timing or identity of the person responsible. Investigators are also questioning residents for any unusual activity that could provide further clues.
This discovery follows a similar case in April, where dismembered body parts of a woman were found wrapped in plastic bags in the Khidderpore area. While police are working to identify any possible connections between the two cases, they have not confirmed any direct links at this stage. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist in solving the crime.
