Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, has been granted bail in connection with the murder and rape case that emerged from incidents at the hospital. The bail was granted by a lower court after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to file a charge sheet within the required 90-day period. Ghosh was arrested in connection with these charges, but with the charge sheet not filed, the court ruled in favor of granting him bail.
Junior doctors at RG Kar Hospital, who had previously protested against the delays in the investigation, have raised concerns following Ghosh’s release. They have pointed to the extended delay in filing the charge sheet by the CBI, questioning the pace of the investigation. The junior doctors, including Kinjal Nand and Aniket Mahato, expressed frustration over the lack of progress and indicated that they would consider a strike or other forms of protest if the investigation is not expedited.
The junior doctors have also brought attention to several aspects of the investigation they find concerning. One key issue they raised is the rushed cremation of the deceased, which they believe may have hindered evidence collection. Additionally, the FIR in the case was filed 12 to 14 hours after the incident, a delay they consider unusual and problematic for the investigation process. These points have been part of the ongoing criticisms voiced by the medical community.
Along with the developments surrounding Ghosh’s bail, the case also saw the exoneration of Abhijit Mondal, the former officer-in-charge of the Tala police station. Despite these ongoing concerns, the CBI has yet to address all the questions raised regarding the investigation’s handling, leading to further frustration among the doctors. The junior doctors have called for greater accountability from the CBI and have demanded clarification on the investigation's delays and procedural issues. The situation remains unresolved, and future actions are still under discussion.
