Thailand is set to implement a new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system for visa-exempt travellers, including Indian citizens, starting January 1, 2025. This initiative aims to simplify travel arrangements and streamline the entry process for visitors.
According to an official notice from the Thai embassy, non-Thai nationals will need to apply for all visa types through the designated website, thaievisa.go.th. This portal will cater to direct applications by individuals or submissions via representatives, enhancing convenience for applicants.
The embassy has confirmed that the 60-day visa exemption currently available to Indian passport holders for tourism and short business stays will remain effective until further notice. This ensures that Indian visitors can continue to enjoy seamless travel benefits while adjusting to the new system.
One notable feature of the ETA system is the inclusion of offline payment options for visa fees. Specific details regarding payment methods will be shared by the Thai embassy and its consulates. However, the embassy has clarified that all visa fees will be non-refundable, regardless of circumstances.
To manage processing times effectively, the Thai authorities have estimated a 14-working-day timeframe for visa applications from the date of receipt of the payment. This measure underscores Thailand’s commitment to ensuring smooth transitions for visa applicants.
For those opting for regular visa applications, deadlines are fast approaching. Indian nationals with ordinary passports must submit their applications to designated visa processing agencies by December 16, while diplomatic and official passport holders are required to approach the Thai embassy or consulate-general by December 24.
