Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, the Rajya Sabha MP from Trinamool Congress (TMC), has apologized to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and been reinvited to attend the party’s Rajya Sabha MPs' meeting, signaling a resolution to the ongoing tensions within the party. Roy, who had been critical of the TMC leadership and the handling of the RG Kar hospital issue, expressed his regret for his actions in a letter addressed to Mamata Banerjee.
The rift between Roy and the TMC began after his outspoken opposition to the demolition of RG Kar Hospital and his critical posts on social media. These actions, along with a police summons to Roy, fueled speculation about his growing distance from the party. To resolve the situation, TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh intervened, advising Roy to write to the Chief Minister. Roy followed this advice and sent a letter in which he acknowledged the emotional impact of the RG Kar incident and clarified that he had been misled by conflicting reports.
Following the apology, Roy received an invitation from Derek O’Brien to attend the Rajya Sabha MPs' meeting on Wednesday. This marks the beginning of Roy’s reintegration into the party. Sources confirm that Roy will now participate in upcoming TMC activities, including protests and other programs, alongside the leadership. His involvement in these events indicates that the earlier rift with the party leadership has been resolved.
Roy's apology and subsequent reintegration into TMC activities reflect an effort to heal divisions within the party, with Kunal Ghosh’s mediation playing a key role in bringing about the reconciliation.
