Thailand announces e-visa for Indians from Jan 1, 60-day exemption to continue
The Supreme Court will today hear the RG Kar Medical College case, where a civic volunteer is accused of raping and murdering a young female doctor on August 9. The incident took place on the premises of the government-run hospital, raising serious concerns about security measures and administrative oversight in healthcare facilities.
The case, initially taken up suo motu by a bench led by former Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, is now under the purview of a bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna. The state government has submitted an affidavit detailing the process of civic volunteer recruitment, stating that a committee oversees their appointments. Following the incident, the Supreme Court directed the formation of a task force to address security gaps and improve healthcare infrastructure.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the case, informed a lower court that it is analyzing 900 hours of CCTV footage, including footage from eight cameras capturing events immediately after the crime. Forensic analysis of these recordings is being conducted to gather additional evidence.
The Supreme Court had earlier sought detailed reports from the state government on the healthcare system's security infrastructure and the roles and monitoring of civic volunteers. The hearing today will focus on the state’s compliance with these directives and updates on the ongoing CBI investigation.
