Sourav Ganguly’s possible entry into politics has been a topic of discussion for several years, and recent comments from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have reignited this speculation. During a recent event, Mamata Banerjee remarked, “Maybe, maybe not. I have faith, trust, and belief in the people. We will come, I believe that,” referring to her party’s prospects in the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections. She followed this with a comment, “Sourav will get bowled out!” which quickly led to questions about Ganguly’s political intentions, particularly regarding his possible association with the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Ganguly, who was present at the event, did not directly address the political question. When asked about his potential entry into politics, he responded by saying, “Politics is the work of politicians, my work is different. This is the rule of my life.” He also responded to a question about playing cricket again, stating, “Why don’t you ask when you’ll play again? This is what I like hearing.” His answers appeared to focus on his current life and career, avoiding a clear statement on his involvement in politics.
The speculation regarding Ganguly’s political career is not new. During his tenure as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he was frequently linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), particularly due to his association with prominent political figures such as Amit Shah and Jay Shah. However, Ganguly has consistently refrained from making public political statements, and his stance on joining any political party remains unclear. There has also been speculation that he could join the TMC, as Mamata Banerjee has often praised his leadership and public image. Nevertheless, Ganguly has maintained his focus on cricket and his other ventures.
Alongside the political discussion, Mamata Banerjee also shared her approach to staying fit. When psychiatrist Hirnamoy Saha commented on her health, Mamata explained that good health is achieved through a combination of walking, exercise, and a balanced lifestyle. “Just walking is not enough. Health is wealth, remember that. At the end of the day, wealth is not property, it is health,” she stated. She emphasized the need for regular physical exercise and pranayama (breathing exercises), as well as dedicating at least 15 minutes each day to physical activity.
Mamata also revealed that she, like Sourav Ganguly, has not consumed rice or roti for the past 20 years. Although she did not provide specifics about her diet, she mentioned that both she and Ganguly drink 'uchcher ros' (a type of fruit juice) three days a week. According to Mamata, this juice helps with digestion, cleanses the stomach, and aids in reducing belly fat. She explained that her focus on a healthy lifestyle includes a combination of diet, physical activity, and mental well-being practices to maintain fitness.
