Thailand announces e-visa for Indians from Jan 1, 60-day exemption to continue
TMC MLA Humayun Kabir has announced plans to build a new Babri Masjid in Beldanga, located in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. Kabir, who represents the Bharatpur constituency in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, confirmed that the construction of the mosque will begin before December 6, 2025. The project will be overseen by a newly formed trust, and Kabir has committed to donating ₹1 crore from his personal funds to help fund the construction.
The Babri Masjid Trust will be made up of members from the local madrasas, including presidents and secretaries, from both Beldanga and Berhampore. The trust, which is expected to comprise more than 100 members, will be responsible for acquiring land and overseeing the mosque's construction. According to Kabir, the mosque will be constructed on two acres of land in Beldanga, an area where approximately 80% of the population is Muslim. Kabir assured that funds for the project would not be an issue, as additional financial support will be sought from various sources.
Kabir emphasized that the mosque would be larger than the original Babri Masjid that stood in Ayodhya. He further explained that this decision was made in response to the feelings and aspirations of the Muslim community in West Bengal. He pointed out that Muslims make up about 34% of the state's population, with Murshidabad being a Muslim-majority district, where around 70% of the population is Muslim. Kabir believes the mosque will serve as a symbol of the Muslim community’s pride and dignity.
The MLA also stated that the location in Beldanga is historically significant. He noted that the area is home to one of the oldest madrasas in the state, which is more than 111 years old. Kabir explained that this adds to the region's religious and educational importance, making it an appropriate place for the construction of the mosque.
Kabir confirmed that the foundation stone for the mosque will be laid on December 6, 2025, and that the mosque's construction will take between three to five years to complete. The MLA also announced that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be invited to the ceremony as the chief guest. However, Kabir clarified that this project is being carried out in his personal capacity, as a follower of Islam, and not as a political leader or MLA. He emphasized that the mosque’s construction will proceed in a peaceful and lawful manner, adhering to all necessary guidelines and regulations.
