Disabled student rejects 50 lakh job offer, pursues space research ambitions despite severe physical limitations

A student from Kharagpur has achieved significant academic success despite being born with severe physical disabilities, which prevent him from moving independently or sitting up without assistance. He cannot use his hands or legs, but this has not hindered his intellectual abilities. In fact, he turned down a job offer worth 50 lakh per year from an American bank, opting instead to continue his studies and pursue a career in space technology and research.

The student completed his secondary education in 2017 at Kendriya Vidyalaya, located on the IIT Kharagpur campus. Following this, he completed his higher secondary exams in Kota, Rajasthan. He then pursued a B.Tech degree in Computer Science from Shibpur. Despite the challenges presented by his physical condition, he completed his academic exams independently, using his mouth to hold a pen or pencil to write. Teachers assist him only by turning the pages during exams. He has never relied on a scribe or additional accommodations to complete his work.

Although he cannot write or type with his hands, the student uses his mouth to operate a computer and type. This method allows him to complete assignments, exams, and tasks involving computers effectively. Despite his physical limitations, he does not require extra time during exams and is able to perform tasks like drawing and using computers without difficulty.

Currently preparing for the M.Tech entrance exam, which is scheduled for February 2025, the student remains focused on advancing his academic knowledge. His academic goals center on space research, and he aims to specialize in space technology and contribute to research in the field. He declined the high-paying job offer to prioritize further studies, aligning with his long-term academic and career aspirations.

The student has received multiple awards for his academic achievements. These include recognition from both the President and the Governor of his state. His mother assists with daily tasks such as feeding and personal care but has noted that he is fully independent in his academic work. The student's achievements and ongoing academic pursuits highlight his dedication to his studies and his commitment to contributing to the field of space research.
