A Trinamool Congress worker, Srikanta Mondal, was killed in Nandigram following an attack on Sunday night in Jalpaiguri village, under Nandigram 1 block. According to police sources, Srikanta and his brother, Shrimanta Mondal, both affiliated with the Trinamool Congress, were assaulted by a group of assailants who allegedly have connections to the BJP. The assailants reportedly entered their home and attacked the brothers with sharp weapons. Srikanta Mondal was stabbed in the abdomen, resulting in fatal injuries, while Shrimanta sustained injuries as well.
Both victims were rushed to Nandigram Super Speciality Hospital in critical condition. Shrimanta Mondal’s injuries were treated, but Srikanta Mondal succumbed to his injuries early the following morning due to excessive blood loss. The police confirmed Srikanta Mondal’s death and are continuing their investigation into the matter.
The incident has raised tensions in the area, and the police have initiated a probe to identify those responsible for the attack. Local authorities have not made any arrests yet. The BJP has denied involvement in the attack, with local BJP leaders stating that the incident was not related to their party and instead attributed it to internal conflicts within the Trinamool Congress. Investigations are ongoing, and police have assured that action will be taken once the suspects are identified.
