A powerful explosion late Sunday night in Khayertala village, under Sagarpara gram panchayat of Murshidabad district, West Bengal, killed three individuals and left several others injured. The incident occurred at the residence of Mamun Molla, where crude bombs were allegedly being manufactured. The explosion destroyed the house, blowing off its roof and scattering debris over a large area.
The deceased have been identified as Mamun Molla (30), Sakirul Sarkar (32), and Mustaqin Sheikh (28). Local residents attempted to take Mamun and Sakirul to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital, but both succumbed to their injuries before arrival. Those injured in the blast fled the site before authorities arrived, according to initial reports.
Police officials have confirmed that crude bombs were being made at the site when the explosion occurred. A significant police force has been deployed in the area, and bomb squad teams are conducting a detailed investigation. The intensity of the explosion caused extensive structural damage to the house, and teams are working to collect forensic evidence.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had prior involvement in activities such as phensedyl smuggling. Law enforcement is focusing on identifying others potentially involved in the incident and whether there are any connections to cross-border illegal activities.
The explosion site is located in a sensitive region near the India-Bangladesh border, which has seen several similar incidents in the past. Officials are continuing their probe into the cause and circumstances of the explosion, as well as the purpose behind the crude bomb manufacturing operation.
