The Mumbai Police on Saturday launched a probe after receiving a threat message targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The message, traced to a phone number registered in Ajmer, Rajasthan, mentioned the involvement of two ISI agents and a plan to carry out a bomb blast.
The threatening WhatsApp message was sent to the Mumbai traffic police helpline on Saturday morning, triggering swift action. A police team has been dispatched to Ajmer to track and apprehend the suspect. According to a police source, initial investigations suggest that the sender may be mentally unstable or under the influence of alcohol.
An FIR has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials confirmed that the Mumbai traffic police helpline has been the target of multiple hoax threats in recent months, but every such message is treated with utmost seriousness.
The threat comes at a time when security agencies are already on high alert following recent incidents involving other high-profile personalities. Actor Salman Khan, for instance, received death threats over the past 10 days. The latest message warned Khan to apologize to the Bishnoi community or pay ₹5 crore, failing which he would be eliminated.
Mumbai Police’s crime branch is collaborating with cyber experts to trace the origins of both the PM Modi threat and the Salman Khan messages. Investigators are also probing whether the recent threats against the actor are connected to Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang, which has a history of targeting Khan.
While officials have urged the public to remain calm, they have assured that no threat, even one suspected to be a hoax, will be taken lightly. “We are actively pursuing leads and ensuring that all security protocols are in place for the safety of everyone,” said a senior officer involved in the case.
