Tech billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has become the largest political donor in the United States, spending at least $270 million to support Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, according to newly released federal filings. Musk's financial contributions, which included funding for door-to-door campaign operations and speaking at Trump rallies, have surpassed those of any individual donor in over a decade, as per data from the nonprofit OpenSecrets.
Musk contributed $238 million to America PAC, a political action committee he established to back Trump, and an additional $20 million to the RBG PAC, which worked to soften Trump’s image on divisive issues like abortion. His total spending eclipsed that of Tim Mellon, Trump’s former top donor, who contributed nearly $200 million during this election cycle.
In recognition of his significant support, Musk has reportedly been offered a role in Trump’s advisory team, focusing on cost-cutting strategies. The tech magnate's unprecedented donations mark a new era in political funding, highlighting the influence of billionaires in shaping electoral outcomes.
