Rahul Gandhi called ‘traitor’; Congress files privilege motion against BJP MPs

The Congress party has moved a privilege motion against BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Sambit Patra following their controversial remarks targeting Rahul Gandhi. During parliamentary proceedings on Friday, the Congress alleged that these remarks were part of a broader strategy to derail discussions on pressing issues like the Adani controversy.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of the issue, stating, “We wanted a ruling from the Speaker on the privilege motion, but the Question Hour was adjourned. Shockingly, the same members who made the derogatory remarks were allowed to speak again in Parliament.” Gogoi accused the government of suppressing the Opposition’s voice to avoid debates on sensitive topics.

General Secretary KC Venugopal also lambasted the government, describing its attitude as “bulldozing” and accusing it of exerting undue pressure on the Speaker. “Remarks against Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders are becoming increasingly derogatory, and the government is allowing this trend to continue unchecked,” Venugopal said.

The controversy escalated when BJP MP Nishikant Dubey questioned Rahul Gandhi’s alleged links with individuals like Salil Shetty of the Open Society Foundation and others during the Zero Hour. He claimed these associations raised concerns about the Bharat Jodo Movement’s funding and its ideological motivations.

Adding fuel to the fire, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, during a press conference, referred to Rahul Gandhi as a “traitor of the highest order.” Patra accused Gandhi of being part of a “dangerous triangle” alongside global financier George Soros and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), which he claimed were attempting to destabilize India.

The Congress has vehemently rejected these allegations. Holding a copy of the Constitution in a symbolic protest, Rahul Gandhi posted on social media, declaring that the “Adani deep state” will not intimidate him or his party. The war of words continues to escalate, with both parties accusing each other of undermining democratic discourse.
