Thailand announces e-visa for Indians from Jan 1, 60-day exemption to continue
The decomposed body of 14-year-old Aritri Ghosh was discovered in her home in the Khanabati area of Hooghly after neighbors reported a strong, unpleasant odor. The smell, which had intensified over several days, prompted residents to investigate, and they found Aritri’s body in an advanced state of decomposition inside the house. Her mother was found in close proximity to the body. Police believe the girl had died approximately four days prior to the discovery. No post-mortem examination was carried out, as the death occurred at home, and authorities have not found any immediate signs of foul play.
Aritri, who was born with a disability, had been living with her mother after the death of her father. According to police reports, she had spent most of her time indoors. Her mother was solely responsible for her care. In response to the discovery, the police have questioned the mother to ascertain more details about the circumstances surrounding Aritri’s death. The mother has not been arrested, but police are conducting their investigation to determine if there were any lapses in care or other relevant factors.
Bishwajit Ghosh, Aritri’s uncle, explained that the household had been locked for an extended period, preventing anyone from visiting. He noted that the lock to the house had been changed recently, and he had not been able to access the home for some time. The family had previously employed a caretaker to assist with Aritri’s care, but the caretaker reportedly left due to conflicts with the mother. As a result, the house had remained isolated for an unknown period before the discovery.
After the body was found, some locals took it to a cremation ground, where it was cremated before an official investigation could take place. Police were alerted after the body had been removed, and they are now investigating the cause of death, as well as the circumstances leading to the girl's death and the handling of her care. The investigation is ongoing, and police are interviewing neighbors and family members to gather further details.
