58-year-old teacher Jasbir Kaur was found dead in her home in Dakshineswar, North 24 Parganas, on Thursday evening. She had been employed at the same school for more than 20 years, where she worked as a teacher after the murder of her husband two decades ago. Her sons, who live abroad, were not present at the time of her death. The police discovered her body hanging, and an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Before her death, Jasbir Kaur reportedly recorded a video in which she accused the school’s governing committee of subjecting her to harassment over a missing teacher training certificate. In the video, she stated that despite her long service, the new committee demanded she provide the certificate, which she did not possess. Jasbir said this pressure had caused her immense mental distress.
According to local reports, the new governing committee began requiring her to submit the teacher training certificate despite her having taught for over two decades without such documentation. She had not been asked for this certificate during her previous years at the school. It is alleged that the pressure to obtain the certificate, which Jasbir could not provide, led to repeated confrontations and harassment.
After discovering her body, local authorities transported Jasbir’s remains to Sagar Dutta Medical College for a post-mortem examination. The Dakshineswar Police are investigating the incident. They are looking into the harassment claims made by Jasbir and examining the role of the school’s administration in her death. As of now, no arrests have been made, and police are working to gather further details.
