Sujay Krishna Bhadra, an accused in the Bengal recruitment scam case, has been granted conditional bail by the Calcutta High Court. The decision was delivered on Friday by Justice Shubhra Ghosh. Bhadra had been arrested in connection with alleged financial irregularities linked to large-scale corruption in recruitment for government jobs in West Bengal. He has been in custody for months and has undergone prolonged medical treatment, including heart surgery during his detention at SSKM Hospital.
The court imposed conditions for bail, including surrendering his passport, regularly appearing before the trial court, and retaining his current mobile phone number. These measures aim to ensure his availability during ongoing legal proceedings. Bhadra’s bail comes in relation to the case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). However, he remains in custody as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated proceedings to take him into their custody for interrogation in a related case.
The recruitment scam case involves allegations of bribes, irregular appointments, and violations of recruitment norms in government-run schools and other public institutions. Several individuals have been arrested or questioned in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing. The ED and CBI have focused on tracing financial transactions and identifying beneficiaries of the alleged corruption, with Bhadra’s role under scrutiny in both investigations.
