BJP leader Arjun Singh has called for stronger action from the Indian government in response to the alleged persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. Speaking ahead of a protest scheduled for Monday at the Petrapole border, Singh emphasized that the protest is focused on the arrest of Swami Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Hindu religious leader detained in Bangladesh. Singh and other BJP leaders are demanding his immediate release. The protest also aims to draw attention to the broader concerns about the treatment of Hindus in Bangladesh, including reports of violence and discrimination against the minority community.
Singh pointed out that Bangladesh’s treatment of its Hindu population has been a subject of growing concern. He noted that religious minorities in Bangladesh, particularly Hindus, have faced increasing challenges, including attacks on religious sites, forced conversions, and instances of communal violence. The BJP leaders are using the protest to highlight these issues and demand international attention to the matter.
In addition to the release of Swami Chinmoy Krishna Das, the protesters are also calling for the Indian government to take action to stop the export of goods from India to Bangladesh. Singh has also raised the issue of medical treatment, demanding that Bangladeshis be restricted from coming to India for healthcare, suggesting they should seek medical treatment in other countries, such as Pakistan. These demands are part of the BJP's broader stance on addressing what they perceive as deteriorating relations with Bangladesh due to the treatment of Hindus and other religious minorities.
The protest will include BJP leaders, lawmakers, and religious figures, with Subhendu Adhikari among those set to attend. Singh has specifically criticized the Bangladesh government for detaining Swami Chinmoy Krishna Das, asserting that his arrest is a tactic to silence dissent. The protest is seen as part of a larger political movement by the BJP to address issues related to the rights of Hindus in Bangladesh and the perceived lack of response from the international community, including the United Nations. The situation at the Petrapole border remains tense, with preparations underway for the demonstration.
