The Calcutta High Court has granted bail to an individual arrested in connection with the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) investigation into a large-scale recruitment corruption case. The individual was arrested on March 20, 2023, by the ED after being implicated in financial irregularities related to both teacher recruitment and old recruitment exams. The accused’s company had been awarded a contract for preparing OMR sheets for older recruitment exams, a contract that is now under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged recruitment scam.
According to the ED, the individual was involved in facilitating the collection of ₹1.67 crore from job applicants through a network of eight agents. The money was allegedly channeled to influential figures within the political sphere. The ED’s investigation also revealed that lists of job applicants were sent by the accused to certain individuals via email. These lists were reportedly forwarded to Kuntal Ghosh, another key figure in the case, for further processing. The accused has been charged with corruption, financial fraud, and misconduct in connection with the recruitment process.
The court granted bail on the condition that the individual provide a personal bond of ₹10 lakh, surrender their passport, maintain their mobile number, and fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation. The ED and other investigative agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), continue to examine the details of the case and pursue further inquiries to identify other individuals involved in the alleged corruption.
