A 40-year-old sex worker was found dead in her room in the red-light area of Budge Budge late Thursday night. The woman, who had been living in the area for about 22 years, was originally from Canning in South 24 Parganas. She had been in a live-in relationship with a man for several months, and neighbors were familiar with the regular disputes between the couple.
According to local residents, the couple’s room was the source of loud arguments on Thursday evening. After midnight, the man came out of the house and reportedly informed the neighbors, saying, “She has hanged herself.” This raised immediate suspicion among the locals due to the nature of the couple’s relationship.
The police were notified, and officers from the Budge Budge police station arrived at the scene shortly thereafter. They found the woman’s body inside the room and transported it to Budge Budge Municipal Hospital. The doctors at the hospital confirmed her death, and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The police detained the live-in partner for questioning. The couple’s frequent quarrels had been a topic of discussion among residents, but no formal complaints had been made by the woman prior to her death. According to local sources, the man had been known to visit the woman’s room regularly, but the details of their relationship were not fully known to outsiders.
On Friday morning, the woman’s family members arrived at the Budge Budge police station and filed a formal complaint. They have requested a thorough investigation into the cause of death. The police have assured that they are treating the matter seriously, and officials confirmed that the investigation will continue based on the post-mortem report. Authorities are also reviewing all evidence to determine whether further action is necessary.
