Darjeeling zoo first in India to house both Siberian and White tigers
Shankar Chattopadhyay, an Assistant Sub-Inspector with Alipore police station, was found dead at his residence in New Taliganj under the jurisdiction of Regent Park police station in Kolkata. The incident occurred on Friday morning, and preliminary investigations revealed multiple injury marks on his body. His body was sent for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Chattopadhyay had been on medical leave for several months due to nerve-related issues that caused difficulty in walking. He was undergoing treatment at Bangur Hospital for his condition. According to police sources, he had been staying at home during his medical leave.
Neighbors have alleged that Chattopadhyay was regularly assaulted by his wife and son. They claimed he faced frequent physical abuse and was not provided with adequate care or food. Based on these allegations, the police detained his wife and son for questioning to gather information related to the case.
An investigation has been launched to collect evidence and establish the facts. Forensic teams are examining the scene, and witness statements are being recorded. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm whether the death was natural or involved foul play.
