Three people were killed and five others critically injured in a road accident on Sultanpur Road near Gauriganj late Thursday night. The collision occurred when a speeding Scorpio crashed into a truck in front of the State Bank of India. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the victims trapped in the wreckage.
The victims were traveling as part of a wedding procession from Karaudi Kala in Sultanpur to Bisundaspur, Gauriganj. After the wedding, the group of eight people were returning to Sultanpur when the crash took place. Upon impact, the Scorpio was severely damaged. Local residents, upon witnessing the accident, rushed to the scene and managed to pull the victims from the vehicle. They were then taken to a nearby hospital, where three individuals, Pappu Kashyap, Betu, and Rupak, were declared dead by medical staff.
The five injured passengers—Abhishek, Pradeep Singh, Lakshya Pratap Singh, Dev, and the Scorpio driver Kundan—sustained serious injuries and were immediately referred to a higher medical center for advanced treatment. All are reported to be in critical condition.
Gauriganj police responded to the scene and ensured the transport of the victims to medical facilities. While the injured were sent to a higher medical center, the police confirmed one death at the hospital, but the full number of fatalities was not immediately verified due to the transfer of the injured victims. The truck driver, who fled the scene, remains unidentified, and authorities are actively investigating the incident.
