Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
A low-intensity explosion near a PVR in Delhi's Prashant Vihar on Thursday morning caused panic and prompted a swift response from security agencies. The blast occurred in a scooter parked outside a sweet shop, with police recovering an unidentified white powder from the site.
Police received a call about the explosion at 11:48 AM, following which the bomb disposal team and other emergency services were deployed to the scene. A senior police officer confirmed that the blast originated from the scooter, causing minor injuries to the driver of a nearby three-wheeler.
The area has been cordoned off, and nearby shops have been temporarily closed for safety reasons. Witnesses reported a loud sound and a faint smell in the vicinity immediately after the explosion. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
The Delhi Fire Services dispatched four fire tenders to the location after receiving the alert. "Our teams are working alongside other agencies to determine the cause and nature of the explosion," a fire department official stated.
This incident bears resemblance to a blast that occurred last month in the same area, where a crude bomb exploded near the boundary wall of a CRPF school. However, officials have yet to establish any connection between the two incidents.
Additional Commissioner of Police Rajeev Ranjan and other senior officers are overseeing the investigation. Security forces, including a bomb detection team and a dog squad, are thoroughly examining the site. The white powder found at the scene is being analyzed to identify its composition.
