TMC pulls MLA Humayun Kabir’s security, issues show-cause notice over anti-party remarks

TMC MLA Humayun Kabir, representing Bharatpur, has come under scrutiny following his recent remarks against the party's leadership. In response to his comments, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) issued a show-cause notice to Kabir and withdrew his security detail. His previous security consisted of two armed constables and an escort vehicle, which included an officer of the rank of SI or ASI and two constables. The security withdrawal follows his public statements that were critical of the party’s position.

The controversy began when Kabir called for TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee to be appointed as the state’s police minister. This remark, made outside the West Bengal Assembly, raised concerns within the party, leading to disagreements among its members. In particular, TMC leader Firhad Hakim criticized Kabir’s statements, saying, “If you have power, win without Mamata Banerjee’s photo.” Hakim’s comments highlighted the tension between Kabir’s views and the party’s leadership.

After the initial remarks, Kabir continued to voice his concerns in a meeting at Kalighat, where he alleged that efforts were being made to marginalize Abhishek Banerjee within the party. Kabir accused certain leaders of attempting to mislead Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for personal gain. While Kabir did not name individuals, he referred to those responsible as being in charge of Murshidabad district, further fueling internal divisions.

Following these developments, TMC took swift action by issuing a show-cause notice and removing Kabir’s security. Kabir has not publicly commented on the removal of his security. The disciplinary actions taken by the party reflect its response to the ongoing internal conflicts and the criticisms voiced by the MLA.
