Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
The body of Shubhendu Choudhury, Principal Chief Security Officer of North Bengal Railway, was recovered on Thursday, four days after he was swept away by the strong currents of the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh. Choudhury, who had been inspecting a new railway project in Tinsukia, Assam, traveled to Parshuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh as part of his duties. While working near the river, he was caught by the swift water and went missing on Sunday, sparking a massive search operation.
Authorities launched an extensive search, involving the Arunachal Pradesh disaster management team, local police, and railway officials, to locate the missing officer. The operation, which included aerial and riverbank searches, continued for four days without success. On Thursday, Choudhury’s body was found approximately 20 kilometers downstream from the river's main course, bringing an end to the intense search efforts.
The tragic incident has left the railway community in shock. While officials have not yet commented on the exact cause of the accident, the recovery of Choudhury’s body marks the conclusion of a critical search operation. The Railway Ministry and local authorities are now focused on providing support to the officer’s family and reviewing safety measures for personnel working in remote and hazardous locations.
