Violence erupts in Kolkata as Hindu Jagran Manch protest clashes with police; Officer injured
A troubling case has come to light in Kolkata involving a photographer who is facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act after allegedly coercing a minor model into a topless photoshoot. The victim, a young girl, filed a complaint at Golf Green Police Station, stating that she paid ₹50,000 for a photoshoot, and during the session, the photographer demanded she pose topless. The model claims that when she resisted, the photographer slapped her and pulled her hair, threatening to withhold the pictures if she did not comply.
The incident took place in a studio located in Kolkata, where the minor had expected to receive her photos after completing the session. However, the photographer allegedly insisted that she perform a topless shoot, which was not part of their prior agreement. The victim says that after she refused to comply, the photographer became aggressive, further threatening to withhold all the images unless she participated in the topless shoot.
In addition to the topless photoshoot, the photographer is accused of offering the minor a modeling opportunity for a website called “Ullu,” which the victim later learned is known for adult content. The photographer allegedly encouraged her to take up this offer, despite her reluctance, which raised concerns about his intentions. The minor, who was unaware of the explicit nature of the website, was reportedly pressured to agree.
The accused photographer, who is a resident of Sarashuna Shyamsundar Pally, has been named in the FIR but has not yet been arrested. Sources say that he has not been detained despite the FIR being filed 28 days ago. The accused is expected to seek anticipatory bail at Alipore Court. The police investigation is ongoing, and they are gathering further information.
The victim’s lawyer, Sukanta Biswas, has stated that the young girl has been receiving multiple threatening phone calls from unknown numbers since filing the complaint. This has raised concerns about possible attempts to intimidate the victim. Authorities are also investigating whether there is a network of studios or individuals exploiting young models in Kolkata. Police have yet to confirm any connections to other similar cases but are continuing their inquiry.
