Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
The RG Kar movement, which initially gained momentum through protests by doctors, continues to be a significant issue as Abhaya’s parents remain firm in their pursuit of justice for their daughter’s death. On Tuesday, Abhaya’s parents visited the Legislative Assembly in Kolkata to meet with Shuvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition. The family is waiting for the supplementary charge sheet in connection with the case, which they believe will provide clarity on the investigation and inform their next steps.
Abhaya’s father explained that their visit to the Assembly was prompted by the observation of Constitution Day, reflecting their ongoing commitment to the legal process. He said, “We just want to see the supplementary charge sheet. If we find any slackness in the matter, we will take to the streets.” The family continues to press for a thorough investigation, expressing concern that the case could be mishandled if the supplementary charge sheet shows any weaknesses.
In addition to their legal concerns, Abhaya’s mother described the emotional toll of losing her daughter, noting that the pain of the death was compounded by the police's actions on the night of the incident. She stated, “No parent should ever have to experience that night.” The family’s focus remains on bringing justice for Abhaya, whose death under unclear circumstances remains a focal point of the movement.
The parents have emphasized that their involvement in the movement is not politically motivated. They rejected suggestions that their actions have any connection to the ongoing by-election, asserting that their sole focus is on obtaining justice for Abhaya. Despite the political backdrop, the family has made it clear that they are committed to pursuing legal accountability and will continue to take action until the case is fully resolved.
