Violence erupts in Kolkata as Hindu Jagran Manch protest clashes with police; Officer injured
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) National Executive meeting, held at Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kalighat, was marked by key organizational updates and strategic decisions on upcoming political actions. The party introduced several new members to its National Executive, including Biman Banerjee, Mala Roy, Javed Khan, Manas Bhuniya, and Kalyan Bandopadhyay, signaling the leadership's effort to diversify its leadership base and enhance its national presence.
A major development was the restructuring of the party's disciplinary committees, aimed at strengthening internal party discipline. The Parliamentary Disciplinary Committee will now include prominent leaders such as Sudip Bandopadhyay, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Derek O'Brien, Nadimul Haque, and Kalyan Bandopadhyay. This committee will be tasked with addressing disciplinary issues related to the party’s parliamentarians. The Internal Party Disciplinary Committee will consist of senior leaders Subrata Bakshi, Arup Biswas, Firhad Hakim, Chandrima Bhattacharya, and Sujit Basu, responsible for enforcing discipline within the party ranks. Additionally, the Legislative Assembly Disciplinary Committee has been formed with Shovondeb Chattopadhyay, Firhad Hakim, Chandrima Bhattacharya, and Debashish Kumar.
The meeting also included a discussion on the assignment of spokespersons for various issues. Arup Biswas has been appointed as the coordinator for spokespersons, managing interactions across different media outlets. In terms of issue-based representation, finance-related issues will be handled by Amit Mitra and Chandrima Bhattacharya, while industrial issues will be managed by Shashi Panja and Partha Bhowmik. North Bengal-related issues will be addressed by Gautam Deb, Prakash Chik Baraik, and Udayan Guha, and tea garden issues will be represented by Malay Ghatak, Shovondeb Chattopadhyay, Shashi Panja, and Suman Kanjilal.
A key political move coming out of the meeting is the announcement of protests by the Trinamool Mahila Congress on November 30, from 2 PM to 4 PM, across all blocks in West Bengal. The protests are being held to demand the Aparajita Bill be converted into law. This bill, which focuses on curbing violence against women, is one of the party’s core legislative priorities, and the protests reflect the party’s commitment to advancing women’s rights and safety.
In addition to the protests, TMC leaders confirmed that a 15-member delegation—comprising 10 Members of Parliament (MPs) and 5 Ministers—will meet the President of India after December 10. While the exact date of the meeting is still to be decided, the delegation will discuss several important political matters. Moreover, the TMC will send a letter to the Governor of West Bengal on various pressing issues. TMC MPs are also preparing to raise concerns in Parliament, specifically on topics like price hikes, the increase in fertilizer prices, outstanding wages under the 100-day work scheme, and the suspension of housing schemes. However, TMC clarified that there will be no discussion regarding the Adani Group in this context.
