Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
Three students have been arrested in connection with the deaths of two schoolgirls in Kakdwip, West Bengal. The victims, both twelfth-grade students, went missing on Saturday afternoon after leaving home under the pretext of going for tuition. Their bodies were discovered on Sunday morning along the railway tracks between Nichintapur and Karanjali stations on the Sealdah South Line by the Government Railway Police (GRP).
The arrested individuals include Deepankar Das and Suman Das, classmates of the victims, and Sharad Mondal, a student from a nearby school. All three are residents of Kakdwip. The police have charged them with kidnapping, and further investigations are underway to determine the cause of death. The police have not disclosed any findings regarding whether the deaths were accidental, suicide, or homicide.
The families of the victims had filed a kidnapping complaint with the Harud Point Coastal Police Station on Saturday night, before the bodies were found. After the discovery, the families rejected the theory of suicide and have submitted a written complaint accusing the suspects of murder. The police are now conducting interrogations to verify the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The three arrested students will be presented before the Kakdwip sub-divisional court later today. Police officials are continuing their investigation to gather more details. As of now, no further charges have been filed, and authorities are working to establish the full timeline of events leading to the tragic incident.
